USIMP has developed a series of new Ecosystem Self-Assessment Tools over the years within the scope of several projects targeting stakeholders of the R&D and Innovation ecosystem within the triple helix model.

 

The National Ecosystem Analysis

Public

National Ecosystem Analysis aims to assess the level of utilisation of national R&D supports and assimilation of new technologies.

The survey helps:

To analyse reasons why businesses do not adopt critical technologies,

To identify the obstacles and issues they face in accessing R&D supports for technology-related projects,

Assist the state to design or improve appropriate R&D&I support mechanisms and incentives and 65 questions.

 

The University Knowledge/Technology Transfer Ecosystem Analysis

The University Knowledge/Technology Transfer Ecosystem Analysis is a 40-question tool designed to assess the current maturity level of the knowledge/technology transfer ecosystem within a university.  

University KE/TT Ecosystem Analysis aims to assess the current maturity level of the KE/TT ecosystem in a University to support the development of a roadmap for capacity building.

The survey targets Institutions and has six pillars:

Awareness-policy,

Training availabilities,

Capacity building at researcher level,

 Patent literacy,

Commercialization,

Institutionalization - existence of a TTO/Technopark etc.

 

Company Innovation Capability Analysis:

 Innovation Score Chart for Companies aims to measure the current innovation capabilities of companies and their positions within the sectors, helping to identify areas for potential improvement within the company.

Responses from the different departments (R&D, Production, Exports etc.) within the same company are analysed.

Companies can monitor innovation performance over time by repeating surveys every six months, with past surveys securely stored for retrospective reporting.  120 questions grouped into 24 parameters -with likert-based (1-7) response options.

 

Stakeholder Expectations Survey:

Stakeholder Expectations Survey (80 questions), provides an analysis of the needs and expectations of the TTO customers (all stakeholders) who are final beneficiaries of TTO services.  The goal is to offer guidance in developing skill sets tailored to specific customer needs, enabling TTOs to deliver the right services with a user-centered approach.

 

TTO Self-Assessment:

TTO Self-Assessment (80 questions) assesses the capacity, competencies, and skill-based gaps of individual TTOs to support them in meeting customer expectations.

A spider chart is provided coupled with a detailed report on six main headings;

institutional structure,

public perception and communication,

project-based capability,

corporate relations,

IP& commercialization,

entrepreneurship.

 

Determining the capacity and competencies of selected TTOs

The unique USIMP self-assessment methodology will be used to evaluate the competencies and skill-based deficiencies of selected TTOs to assist them in their efforts to meet the expectations of their customers.

Analysis of the responses

The results of the self-assessment survey will be analysed supported with the desk research data on the country/regional characteristics and a customised interface model will be proposed for the establishment of a “well-functioning TTO”.

Integrating TTOs with the Ecosystem

 Analysis of the expectations of the final users from the KTO/TTOs:

USIMP “Need Analysis Tool” will be implemented to the different stakeholder groups of selected TTOs to determine their customer expectations. The outcomes of the Focus Group Discussions (WP1) will also be utilised to reconcile the specific aims of individual stakeholder groups (university administration, academics, industry and government/policy makers).

Providing Customised Services based on Need Analysis

Institutional strategy and respective objectives and actions will be proposed to increase capacity and expertise of KTO/TTOs with a customer-oriented approach based on their specific needs, to facilitate the provision of the right services with a user-oriented approach.

 

Maturation of the Local Ecosystems through Good Practices

Identification of Industrial Challenges and Academic Know-How pool

A small-scale representative data base for selected industrial pain-points and academic competencies will be extracted from the discussions, self assessment and need analysis results gathered under 1 and 2

 Matchmaking with Turkish Partners

An exemplary activity will be organized to obtain some concrete good practices of trans-national university-industry collaborations, in the form of contracted research and/or licensing/technology transfer.
