6.1 Extending IPR Awareness in the Universities of Turkey Project

USIMP has supported the efforts of the stakeholder organizations in the “Intellectual and Industrial Property Awareness in the Universities of Turkey Project” conducted with the support of EPO and TPE under the National coordination of Ege University. Meetings held within this scope:

6.2 Izmir Development Agency Izmir Innovation Strategy Project

Izmir Regional Innovation Strategy is prepared in 2012 in cooperation with EBILTEM and TÜIK Izmir Regional Directorate to determine the current status of Izmir in R&D and innovation, to define the aims and objectives which shall develop the innovation ecosystem in line with the potential of the region, and to ensure the region to be a technology producer and exporter. In the Project, company data collected by using USIMP Innovation Scorecard is analyzed and the status of businesses in Izmir is evaluated in terms of R&D and innovation.           

6.3 Innopark TTO TUBITAK 1601 Project Needs Analysis and Strategy Study

The Board of Directors of INNOPARK is informed on conducting INNOPARK TTO TUBITAK 1601 Project Needs Analysis and Strategy study by using USIMP Innovation Scorecard and additional methodologies and a proposal was submitted. With the comprehensive study carried out between March and May 2017 within this scope, “TUBITAK 1601 Project Needs Analysis and Strategy Report” is prepared for KONYA INNOPARK.

6.4 Project on Role of TTOs in Establishing Entrepreneur Universities  

The project which USIMP takes part as a supportive organization is supported by the British Academy Newton Fund and conducted in cooperation with E.U. EBILTEM-TTO and Southampton University between the dates September 31, 2015 - October 1, 2017. Within the scope of the project, numerous seminars and information days are organized primarily on innovation and entrepreneurship. Moreover, 3 different survey studies are conducted for the universities in Turkey, namely the Rector, TTO Director and TTO specialist, and data are collected.   

6.5 Effects and Contributions of Universities to Regional Development; New Methods and Approaches Project

Within the scope of TUBITAK 2223-D Cooperation and Event Organization Program on Priority Areas, an application has been made with the collaborations of  University of Lincoln, University of London, University of Southampton and University of Edinburgh from the United Kingdom. The project applied is supported by TUBITAK and a two-day workshop is organized on March 16-17, 2007, in Izmir. In the workshop which 71 researchers in total have attended from England and Turkey; besides, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) has organized a special session themed "Mission Differentiation and Specialization Focused on Regional Development" and shared the results of its studies.          

 

6.6 Innovative Interface Structures (YAY) Platform Project

It carries out the duty of coordinator consultancy in the project with 11 partners, which is supported by Istanbul Development Agency and 9 of our members are involved. The Project has taken 18 months. In order to provide "need-oriented" services with user-oriented approaches, many activities shall be conducted to increase the capacities and competencies of the interface structures and it is expected to turn into a sustainable learning environment after the Project.  

Within this scope, although USIMP was not a direct stakeholder of the project, support is given between the years of 2018-2019 within the scope of YAY Project as 11of the stakeholders were USIMP members.  

 

Within the scope of Innovative Interface Structures (YAY) Platform Project; The Project constructed by USIMP and conducted by the USIMP Members within the scope of Istanbul Development Agency Innovative Creative Istanbul Financial Support Program has served for capacity development efforts for institutionalization of standardization of USIMP’s national Technology Transfer processes. 

It is supported by the partnership and participation of our members Sabancı, Özyeğin, Okan, Istanbul Kültür and Istanbul Arel Universities, Istanbul Technopark, University Industry Collaboration Centers Platform (USIMP), Anatolian Side Organized Industrial Zone, SUNUM (Ministry of Development, Advanced Research Infrastructure), VSY Biotechnology and Atabay Ilaç Sanayi R&D Centers under the management of Marmara University Innovation and Technology Transfer Application and Research Center (MITTO) which is one of the members of USIMP.

 

The fact that the project consists of "stakeholders who come together with the aim of learning together on the basis of volunteering" and that it has adopted the principle of "user-oriented capacity development" shall enable it to be structured and gradually expanded as a sustainable cooperation network in the future.

 

Workshops within the scope of YAY Project

  • February 6, 2019 - National Stakeholder Expectation Workshop: At the meeting held within the scope of YAY Project at Özyeğin University with participation of 33 attendants, determination of expectations from interface structures on national level, specifying priority areas and bottlenecks of stakeholders in the ecosystem, performing expectation workshop assessments and creation of solution steps are discussed.
  • February 20, 2019 - Regional Stakeholder Expectation Workshop: At the meeting held at Istanbul Anatolian Side Organized Industrial Zone with participation of 42 attendants; a study is conducted on agenda items of determination of expectations from interface structures on regional level, specifying priority areas and bottlenecks, sharing results of stakeholder surveys and creation of solution steps.
  • March 28-29, 2019 - International Stakeholder Expectation Workshop: At the meeting held at Marmara University with participation of 39 attendants; the agenda items on contribution of interface institutions in R&D Centers and innovation system in international ecosystems, expectations from interface structures globally and best practices/success stories in international area are evaluated. International guests of the Workshop were Cengiz Tarhan, the former director of UCLB, Michel Morant, the CEO of the University-Industry Liaison Office of the University of Liege, and Kevin Cullen, the Deputy Chairman of King Abdullah University Innovation and Economic Development KAUST.
  • May 9-10, 2019 – International Trends Workshop: The workshop is held at Sabancı University SUNUM with participation of 32 attendants with the theme “Measuring Impact on Interfaces and Developing Tools for Capacity Increase”. The topics on defining performance measurement criteria and strategic targets for interface structures are discussed at the workshop. International guests of the Workshop were Cengiz Tarhan, the former director of UCLB, Michel Morant, the CEO of the University-Industry Liaison Office of the University of Liege, and Dr. Sze Tiam Lin, IPI Singapore director.

 Surveys and Self-Assessment

Within the scope of the project, stakeholder expectations reports specific to each institution are prepared under the headings of corporate structure, awareness & effective communication, project-based competence, sectoral and inter-institutional cooperation, patent and invention commercialization and entrepreneurship as a result of the Stakeholder Questionnaires filled in by the internal stakeholders of the institutions as partners and associates and shared with institutions.    

“USIMP Interface Self-Assessment Tool” and “Current Situation Analysis Tool” which were developed to help Interface organizations, specifically TTOs, to evaluate their competencies and determine their deficiencies for capacity development studies are applied as pilot to stakeholders within the scope of YAY Project.

As a concrete output of the YAY Project, an "IAYOSB Information Transfer Office" is established and put into practice at Istanbul Anatolian Side Organized Industrial Zone as the first example in Turkey.

 

Expansion/sustainability studies are conducted with the participation of 15 new members of the YAY Platform in Istanbul.

6.7 TUBITAK 1004 “Integrated Functional Scalable Nanostructures and Nanosystems” Social Impact Project

USIMP takes place as a Consultant in the "Social Impact Project" of the Research Platform themed “Integrated Functional Scalable Nanostructures and Nano systems” led by Sabancı University SUNUM Nanotechnology Research and Application Center supported in 2021 within the scope of TUBITAK 1004 program.  

 

It consists of 15 projects in 5 different research programs within the scope of the R&D and Technology Cooperation Network (NANOSIS Platform), which brings 24 institutions/organizations and 106 researchers together. The main objective of the projects which is the main output is developing sensors based on nano materials and which are able to be miniaturized, easy to use, robust, suitable for industrial processes, at various sensitivity levels and cost efficient.    

With the Social Impact project, the socio-economic, environmental and cultural impacts of 15 Technical Projects shall be examined.
